Hip and valley joints. Metal roof battens offer extraordinary strength to weight values and are lighter than timber battens. Install the valley battens on the sides of the roof that you want to place the valley flashing. Battens should be nailed. The next batten is to be placed with at least one mount flange overlap figure 3 making sure the next batten sits down flat in the existing roof cladding valleys. Fix through the ridge flashing into the roofing batten as shown below using the appropriate cladding screws. Measure each section of the roof from side to side parallel to the line of the fascia board.

Metal roof battens may be used with steel or tile cladding. Metal roof battens may also be used with steel or timber support framing. Roofing battens or battening also called roofing lath are used to provide the fixing point for roofing materials such as shingles or tiles. While decking is not required for a metal roof and is often not used for shops barns or other outbuildings if a metal roof is being put onto a home or a garage the use of decking is common.

Valleys are typically found where gable dormer roofs meet the main roof or when a house has angled wings or additions where two roof sections in different planes meet. Batten joints should be staggered over the roof so that three consecutive battens nz 2 consecutive battens are not jointed on the same rafter. Step 2 install the valley battens.
